The 1st International Guitarlab Online Competition

The International GuitarLab Online Competition follows a very innovative formula
since all auditions are going to be pre-recorded in audio-video form and presented online.
WHO CAN PARTICIPATE?
This competition is addressed to all classical guitarists who want to compete as soloists. Everyone can participate regardless of the age or level of education.
WHEN TO APPLY?
Guitarists competing in all divisions have to submit their videos by August 11, 2020, 11:59PM PST. Competitors from the open division who become finalists, will have to submit their second round videos by August 14, 7:00PM PST.
HOW TO APPLY?
All participants have to upload their performance videos on YouTube and fill out the form available at this link (click here) or on the bottom of this page. You’ll need a YouTube link attached to your video in order to successfully submit your application form. More information how to apply can be found in Competition Rules below.

- The 1st International Guitarlab Competition is organized by Guitarlab.
- The auditions are going to be held exclusively online using YouTube as a platform.
Divisions
- Youth Division – Participants born in 2002 and after. Free repertoire choice, 7-10 minutes.
- Open Division – No age limits. First round: Free repertoire choice, 7-10 minutes. Final round: Free repertoire choice, but different than the first round, 8-10 minutes.
Terms and Conditions
- In order to apply for the competition, a participant is obligated to submit only 1 link that includes the performance of all pieces. A submitted video can consist of separate performances of each piece and doesn’t have to be recorded continuously, however edits within one piece are not allowed. Not complying with these rules can result in disqualification from the competition. A competition video uploaded on YouTube has to be named: “First Name” “Last Name” – The 1st International Guitarlab competition (Example: Johnny Smith - The 1st International Guitarlab competition). In the description a participant has to indicate the division and a full list of performed repertoire.
- Each participant who isn't participating in the Guitarlab workshop has to pay the application fee of $45 in order to take a part in the competition. The Guitarlab workshop participation fee (Full $200 or Partial $150) covers the cost of participating in the competition.
- The decisions of the jury are final and cannot be changed.
- A list of competitors will be published by Guitarlab on the website and on its media channels.
- The jury is going to judge based on the following criteria: Sound, accuracy, musicality, technique, difficulty. Each rubric will be evaluated on a scale from 0 – 10 points. The maximum amount of points that a participant can receive is 50 from each jury member.
- For the open division, both rounds will be prerecorded and will have to be uploaded on YouTube. Late submissions for the finals will not be allowed.
- The organizers have a right to make adjustments to the rules and terms and conditions of this competition as long as it doesn’t increase the costs of participation.
